What Are The Major Components Of A Gas Water Heater?

A Gas Water Heater consists of several components such as a storage tank, gas burner, flue pipe, pressure relief valve, drain valve etc. All of these components work together.  By understanding the different parts you can fix any minor problem at your home. Let’s take a closer look at the different parts of a gas water heater.

Water Storage Tank And Its Components

The storage tank is one of the major components of a gas water heater. There is a  certain amount of water stored in this cylindrical vessel. A dip tube is attached to the tank. This tube allows the cold water to flow into the storage tank. A discharge pipe is generally fitted at the bottom portion of the tank. When the water is heated then it is produced by this pipe. You may notice a shut off valve is on the cold-water inlet of the tank. This valve is generally used in an emergency.

Gas Burner

After the storage tank, the gas burner is another major component of a water heater. It helps to generate heat. This burner is placed under the storage tank. However, the control valve of this burner is attached to the tank. This valve generally works like a thermostat. It can help to control the temperature & ignite the gas pilot.

Exhaust Flue Pipe

When the heat is generated during combustion in the gas burner, different types of gases are also produced. The flue pipe helps to exhaust the excess gases that contain carbon monoxide. Apart from that, it also works as a heat exchanger.

Pressure Relief Valve

The pressure relief valve is one type of safety valve that controls and releases excess pressure in the storage tank. During combustion and heat generation, a huge amount of pressure is created inside the heater tank. This excessive pressure is highly dangerous. Fortunately, the pressure valve can easily release the pressure and prevent the gas heater from bursting. This valve is situated at the head of a tank.

Drain Valve

The drain valve is another major component of a gas water heater. It is generally fitted at the bottom portion of the storage tank. This valve is generally used for reducing all kinds of sediments from the storage tank. The sediments can easily damage the gas water heater.

Now, you have a proper idea about the different parts of a gas water heater and how they work. All parts can be easily repaired and replaced. To maintain the functionality of every part, proper maintenance is essential. However, if you are not able to troubleshoot any problem then you should call an expert. In Perth, you will find many Hot Water Repairs companies who can easily take care of these gas heater components at a low cost.
